So here I sit, in the Evanston Hospital Emergency Room. I would rather be almost anywhere else, but this illness and all that surrounds is way beyond our control.

First and foremost I thank all of the essential workers for keeping us going in the terrible time.

Secondly, and somewhat more importantly, Get Real People!  This Is Serious And You Need To Take The Precautions.

1. Stop hanging out!  While driving over to the hospital I noticed several groups of kids and teens hanging out together. Parents, please prevent this gathering, we need to reduce transmission.
2. Stop touching things!  I have now watched multiple staff, patients, and visitors come in the hospital and not pay any attention to where there hands are. It is scary to see how many things people touch and how often they touch their faces. Keep your hands in your pocket!
3. Hospital staff needs to know what the plan is and stick to it. In the last hour I have been sitting in the COVID-19 waiting area while waiting for my next steps. This is what I have seen:
A. Security are wearing masks but not gloves. But the security guard when you enter the E.R. sitting behind the desk is not even wearing a mask.
B. Visitors that are being allowed in have their temperature and symptoms checked. They are handed a mask and allowed in. It amazes me how many people just walk in and keep the mask in their hands rather than putting it on.
C. I have seen multiple staff go in the locked E.R. doors without their passes simply by rushing through after someone comes out, before the door closes.
D. What confused me most was that they have a divider in the waiting area.  The nurse that saw me in triage said that the right side was for patients with respiratory issues and the left for other patients. Then I saw two or three family members coming in and wanted to see their person in the E.R.  The nursing staff talked to them, checked them and had them put on a mask. They they told them to go sit in the waiting area. And directed them to the respiratory infection side!  What?  Don’t they know which is which?  Doesn’t this significantly affect our ability to contain it?
E. Please don’t get me wrong, I have a long history of Evanston Hospital saving my life. I love them and their staff!  But, based on what is going on in the rest of the world, PLEASE GET MORE SERIOUS ABOUT THE RULES AND PROCEDURES AND MAKE SURE EVERYONE KNOWS AND STICKS TO IT.

Everyone please take extra steps to be safe!

Happy to add that once they have you in a bed in the ER, they know what they are doing and appear to be following a tight regimen.  Be sure to thank your personal higher power for the fantastic job our healthcare people are doing for us.  And don’t forget all the other essential workers!

Variation is potentially the most "open" of musical procedures, one that gives the greatest freedom to a composer's fantasy. It mirrors the unpredictability and chance nature of human experience and keeps alive the openness of human expectation. Fate cannot knock at the door in the variation form: such concepts as necessity and inevitability need a dialectical musical pattern within which to express their message, whereas the variation form is discursive and peripatetic, in flight from messages and ideologies. Its subject is the adventurer, the picaro, the quick-change artist, the impostor, the phoenix who ever rises from the ashes, the rebel who, defeated, continues his quest, the thinker who doubts perception, who shapes and reshapes reality in search of its inner significance, the omnipotent child who plays with matter as God plays with the universe.

Variation is the form of shifting moods, alternations of feeling, shades of meaning, dislocations of perspective. It shatters appearance into splinters of previously unperceived reality and, by an act of will, reassembles the fragments at the close. The sense of time is effaced—expanded, contracted—by changes in tempo; space and mass dissolve into the barest outline of the harmonic progressions and build up once again into intricate structures laden with richly ornamented pattern. The theme abides throughout as an anchor, as though to prevent fantasy from losing contact with the outer world, but it is ever in process of dissolving into the memories, images, and feelings that underlie its simple reality.

Sellman is a naturopathic doctor—a designation distinct from a mainstream medical doctor. Naturopathy, according to information from the alternative medicine university Bastyr University, is a "system of primary health care that emphasizes prevention and the self-healing process through the use of natural therapies."

Naturopathy's legitimacy is contested. Some professionals consider it to be based in pseudoscience, but 22 U.S. states and Washington, D.C. offer licenses to naturopathic doctors, according to the Association of Accredited Naturopathic Medical Colleges (AANMC).

However, Dr. JoAnn Yanez, the executive director of the Association of Accredited Naturopathic Medical Colleges, clarified to Newsweek that Sellman has not met the educational standards that the organization requires.

Sellman "is neither a graduate of an accredited naturopathic medical program, nor has [she] obtained a doctoral level degree from a program recognized by the US Department of Education," Yanez wrote in a statement to Newsweek. "[Her] online profile mentions graduating from the Trinity School of Natural Healing (AKA Health), which is not accredited and confers 'degrees' not recognized by any governmental institution. 'Graduates' of these programs are not considered licenseable [sic] medical practitioners."

Yanez further requested that Newsweek reiterate that Sellman is not a graduate of any institution accredited by AANMC.

Heard on NPR Saturday, February 1, 2020, 7:24 AM, an interviewee speaking on the Laker tribute to their departed hero the night before at the Staples Center, by way of explanation for the public outpouring:

"In my opinion, "Death earns someone a clean slate.""

Trouble is, it's just not so.

Only faith in Jesus Christ affords someone a "clean slate."  (Romans 8, no more condemnation.)  After this life, comes the judgment.  Apparently Kobe had that faith:  his last action before boarding the ill-fated flight was to attend Mass with daughter, Gigi.  Both took communion.

It was the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and his faith in it, and his (presumed) repentance, that afforded Kobe the "clean slate."

We are all going to have a "helicopter crash" someday, i.e., a curtain rung down on our time on stage, whether early, middle or late.  We need to exit with that "clean slate."  There is only one way.
