Can't transfer music files to your Android smartphone? Here's the fix

Windows just wasn't reading the folders on our Moto X4.  Chat said be sure you have the driver.  OK fine, we had it before because we transferred music to the phone before.  Maybe it got corrupted, so we reinstalled as per these instructions:

Angela: Here is the link for you to download Motorola device manager, John:
https://support.motorola.com/us/en/solution/MS79106
 Angela: Please download it first.
 john.: ok
Angela: Would there be anything else aside from this?
 john.: Dl to PC right?
 Angela: Yes.
john.: That page doesn't have the driver on it.
 Angela: Sorry.
Here:

and try this:
https://support.motorola.com/us/en/solution/MS87731
john.: OK the first one is the driver. Do I need to reboot?
Angela: Yes, and the second link is the instructions.

So we dl'd the driver and still not able to read the phone.

Duh.

So this time, we CALLED tech support.  Much better result:

The drill-down for Moto X4:

(Stand on your head)
Tap 7 time on build no. till you see:
"You are a developer"
(Do 25 push-ups)
